GURT Productions’ latest stage work, titled WWG: GURTMania, will debut at Tobacco Factory Theatres beginning October 14 and run for four evenings in total for audiences. Staged in the round, the show is described as “a love letter to the world of professional wrestling.”
The show will unfold in the self-described “outrageous and side-splitting mockumentary style” familiar to fans of previous ‘Gurt’ shows, including the cult hit Gurt Haunted and last year’s festive spin-off, Gurt Haunted: Miracle on North Street.
Production Background
WWG: GURTMania is the first production to be staged since the Gurt team received funding from the newly established Bristol funders The Glastonbury Family Arts Foundation.
The funding enabled the Gurt team to conduct research and development discussion groups with local men from a working-class background. These groups focused on topics including aggression and masculinity, identity, and martial arts.

Creator’s Inspiration
According to the production team, “Blood. Sweat. And a whole lot of lycra… three things every pro-wrestler can’t live without”. The show aims to explore the realities behind the spectacle of professional wrestling.
The Gurt team’s previous productions, such as Gurt Haunted and Gurt Haunted: Miracle on North Street, have received critical acclaim for their unique blend of humor and storytelling.
