Thursday evening saw protesters outside Bristol Royal Infirmary as part of a broader pushback against Palantir’s NHS data programs. Organizers coordinated the local demonstration with similar events nationwide, aiming to prevent NHS England from extending its contract with the American tech firm when it expires in 2027.

Thousands of people have filed legal objections and expressed concerns over the Palantir-powered software currently being used by the NHS’ Federated Data Platform to store patient data as per a £330m contract in December 2023.

Groups like Bristol Against Palantir, a coalition of healthcare workers and patients, are now asking for people to support the campaign by writing letters or emails to local authorities and MPs on the issue. A leaflet handed to passersby outside the BRI explains that NHS Trusts in Bristol have the freedom to “decline to work” with Palantir’s software if they choose to.

Among the group’s several demands are a full-decline or roll back of the Bristol-based trusts’ involvement with Palantir, writing to national institutions about the former step, and a scrutiny of current contractors to identify potential human rights abuses that need to be reviewed.

The contract between Palantir and the NHS is due for renewal in February 2027. At this point, the government can choose not to renew the contract. They are calling on local politicians to lobby the government not to renew the contract.

As part of their efforts to engage with the community, Bristol24/7 members can enjoy various perks, including a free doughnut from Small Goods when purchasing a coffee, free mini golf at Putt Above for themselves and a friend on Sundays, and 25% off their bill at Pizza on the Park. Additionally, members can get a free bike health check from Evans Cycles, a free portion of small fish & chips from Salt & Malt, and a free pint of any Wiper and True draught at Arnolfini bar. By supporting the campaign and taking advantage of these offers, individuals can contribute to the ongoing conversation about Palantir’s involvement with the NHS.
