In addition to his two-dimensional work, Banksy is known for his installation art work. One of the most celebrated of those pieces featured a reside elephant painted with a Victorian wallpaper pattern and sparked controversy amongst Art Galery animal rights activists. He frequented the Els Quatre Gats, a café popular with bohemians, anarchists, and modernists. And he came to be conversant in Art Nouveau and Symbolism, and artists corresponding to Edvard Munch and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.
